Has Asking Alexandria’s style changed since “Stand up and scream”?
Asking Alexandria had shaped an entire generation since their hit album, “stand up and scream” that was released in 2009. While the emo culture had been growing, they had been there during the peak along with several other bands such as Bring Me the Horizon, Atilla, Sleeping with sirens and so on. The band’s current members include lead vocalist, Danny Worsnop, drummer, James Cassells, rhythm guitarist, Cameron Liddell and bass guitarist, Sam Bettley. As of January 2024, Ben Bruce who was the lead guitarist and co-founder of Asking Alexandria had decided to part ways with band due to personal and family obligations. The band also had a former vocalist, Dennis Stoff from 2015-2016 where he performed on Asking Alexandria’s album “The Black”. Fans speculate that Dennis’ departure was due to “indifferences” from the band as well as their record label to which Dennis had decided to leave. Later, he went on to say his departure was due to the war in Ukraine and that he wanted to be there for his family. It is still unclear as to why Dennis Stoff had left the band. Danny Worsnop’s initial departure is also unclear on reasoning as well as there were several reasons speculated and could have been due to Danny’s addictions that were getting in the way of him performing and working life. It has also been speculated that he left due to his disinterest in making metal music. Fans find this odd as Danny has mentioned several times that he wasn’t a fan of his own music and that he didn’t necessarily have a passion for metal music.
By the time their album “From Death to Destiny” released, there is a slight change in style from their albums “Reckless and Relentless” and “Stand Up and Scream”. In “From Death to Destiny”, there is less screaming and more singing with a dash of an acoustic sound in there.
After “The Black” had been released and Dennis had parted ways with the band, Danny had rejoined the band and released “See What’s on the Inside”. This was the beginning of Danny’s no screaming era and had carried on throughout his career following this album into any released albums after this. Danny had claimed over the years that he had stopped screaming due to torn vocal cords but over the years in interviews, he has also contradicted himself many times due to the statements he’s made on not feeling passionate and inspired by metal music anymore. Since then, their style had changed from screamo/metal core to more of a rock genre.
As mentioned by fans that have also attended their most recent shows over the years, it is said that the band no longer plays songs from their earlier album. According Setlist.FM, it has been reported that the band has been playing two of their older, most popular songs on tour so far. Many fans from forums do believe that while Danny Worsnop is in the band, the band will continue making acoustic rock music. We hope that eventually the band will grow back into the Asking Alexandria that we remember from their peak.
